Flogas were praised by the Queen
Flogas were praised by the Queen for the success of our involvement in
the 200th anniversary celebrations of the Battle of Trafalgar on Friday
October 21. As reported in the last edition of ‘people,’ Flogas were
contracted to provide the gas and technical expertise to produce a
spectacular flame for the National Beacon at Portsmouth.
The National Beacon was lit by the Queen at 6.45pm and followed by more
than 1000 other beacons across the country to mark the anniversary of
the battle and the death of Lord Nelson. The beacon was lit alongside
Nelson’s ship, HMS Victory, in front of the gathered crowds and watched
by thousands of people on televisions across the country.
Bruno Peek OBE, MVO, and Chairman of The Trafalgar Weekend (above left)
handed the torch to the Queen to light the national beacon. Following
the success of the evening, Mr Peek thanked John Williams and the team
from Llandarcy for the amazing job they did to make it possible. A
personal letter received by Mr Peek from Buckingham Palace showed Her
Majesty was delighted with the outcome, “The national beacon lighting
formed such an impressive backdrop to the evening’s events. A dramatic
and visual spectacle, it was a special way to commemorate the spirit of
Trafalgar”
Flogas Technical Consultancy Manager John Williams added “The flame we
produced was a complete success and I am pleased to say that we managed
to keep gas usage to minimum whilst still achieving a spectacular flame
to honour the Trafalgar victory.”
The Trafalgar events were extensively covered by the BBC, and were also
shown on the ITV and Sky news.
