Flogas fleet goes greener with new CNG vehicles

As part of its unwavering commitment to sustainability, Flogas has added two new Iveco compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles to its growing fleet. These new Iveco trucks, which offer up to an 85% CO2e reduction from diesel to BioCNG [1], are helping Flogas on the road towards a lower carbon future, as it commits to reduce its direct carbon emissions by 20% by 2025.

Fully operational from August, the new CNG-powered heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) will form part of Flogas’s retail delivery network and will be used to transport LPG cylinders to customers right across the UK. They join the company’s 500-strong fleet, which has already begun diversifying with more sustainable models, including two trucks that are powered by renewable Bio-LNG.

We’re actively investing in alternatively-fuelled vehicles as part our company-wide vision to build a cleaner, greener future

Not only are these CNG trucks a lower carbon alternative to diesel, but they produce far fewer pollutants like nitrous oxide (NOx) and particulate matter, and they’re lower on engine noise than diesel.

Jackie Banks, Head of Fleet at Flogas

“Adding CNG to our fleet is an important step for us in our carbon reduction journey and shows just how invested we are in providing our customers with a more sustainable delivery service. We’re confident these trucks are going to make a lasting, positive impact on our fleet’s sustainability credentials, which is why we’ve already got six more on order.

“This is an emerging market and lower carbon HGVs are still very much in their infancy. That said, at Flogas we’re constantly looking at innovative ways we can reduce our fleet emissions and trialling new technology is part of this. We’re going to be rigorously testing these CNG trucks and paying close attention to the feedback we get from our drivers so we can continue to develop our fleet performance further.”

Flogas, which released its first ever sustainability report earlier this year, is dedicated to becoming carbon neutral by 2050 and in its recent 2040 vision, outlined an ambition to provide customers with 100% renewable energy solutions by 2040. As it transitions on this path to net zero, it’s taking drastic action right across the business to minimise its own environmental impact year on year. Enhancing the sustainability of its fleet is a major part of this and Flogas is at the forefront of the industry in developing a greener fleet that’s fit for the future.

“At Flogas we listen carefully to our drivers and genuinely take their input on board,” adds Jackie. “Using this feedback, we’ve worked closely with truck bodybuilders Massey Truck Engineering (MTE) Ltd to develop a bespoke, optimised design that now includes a host of features we’ve not had before. They’ve got integrated pull-out steps for safer access to vehicle beds; tailor-made cylinder trolley stowage, working lights recessed into the headboard and high-vis yellow mirrors to minimise damage.  We’ve even added new, bold curtain-side branding to make them stand out.

“Not only are the trucks more environmentally sound, but they include a high spec, bespoke design that will really make a difference to our drivers. We can’t wait to get them on the road.”
