BioLPG for my home
Is BioLPG right for the future of my home?
What is BioLPG?
It’s no surprise that rural households across the UK rely on LPG for reliable, responsive heat – especially in homes that aren’t suitable for alternatives like heat pumps. If your home is powered by LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), you’ll know it’s a clean-burning fuel ideal for off-grid homes.
LPG is a by-product of natural gas extraction and oil refining – and among traditional fossil fuels, it has one of the lowest carbon footprints, producing around 13% less CO₂ than oil and up to 40% less than coal or solid fuels.1
But we also know the future needs to be lower-carbon. That’s why Flogas is evolving too.
Introducing BioLPG (also known as biopropane) – now available from Flogas.
Made from sustainable materials like used cooking oils and organic waste, it works in the exact same way as conventional LPG — but with up to 50% fewer carbon emissions.2
If you’re an existing Flogas customer, BioLPG can be blended into your supply or used on its own. You don’t need to change your boiler or tank. It’s a simple switch that makes a real difference.
Is BioLPG a good choice for my home?
Yes — If you already use LPG, you’ll know it provides instant heat, works in all weathers, and powers everything from boilers to cookers to fires. As BioLPG is chemically identical to LPG, it fits right into your current system.
To keep your existing LPG system running smoothly:
• Get your boiler serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
• If your boiler is approaching 15+ years old, ask about newer models designed to be compatible with renewable liquid gases.
If your home is powered by other fuels, such as heating oil or solid fuel, then BioLPG could be the best step in reducing your carbon footprint.
How do BioLPG deliveries work?
When you opt for BioLPG, your plan will be a blend of BioLPG and normal LPG – for example, you’ll be paying for 80% normal LPG and 20% BioLPG.
However, you will not get special deliveries – instead, we use a process called “mass balancing” which means that the BioLPG you pay for will be added to our wider supply of LPG.
So, if you pay for a 20% blend of BioLPG, for every 1000 litres you order we add 200 litres into our storage network.
