Why choose Bio-LNG?

Bio-LNG (also known as liquefied biomethane) is ideal for manufacturing and industrial businesses with continuous energy-intensive processes, as well as the transport industry.

It's an abundant renewable energy source that's cleaner than other off-grid fossil fuels and biofuels, offering major carbon reductions. If you're considering an alternative fuel for your fleet or business, our team of energy experts are here to help. We'll design a Bio-LNG solution that's tailored to meet your exact needs and deliver the very best results.

At Flogas, we're so convinced by the benefits of bioenergy, that we've added Bio-LNG powered trucks to our own fleet, making it cleaner, greener and increasingly futureproof.

Our Bio-LNG offering is part of our vision to supply customers with 100% renewable energy solutions by 2040.

What is Bio-LNG?

Bio-LNG is a highly sustainable version of liquefied natural gas (LNG), with almost the exact same chemical makeup.

It is produced during the anaerobic digestion (AD) process, which breaks down organic matter (such as food or animal waste) in an oxygen-free tank to produce methane-rich biogas. This makes it a renewable fuel – which means it produces far fewer carbon emissions and pollutants.

Bio-LNG supply

Businesses already using LNG can switch on the benefits of Bio-LNG instantly – with no set up changes or downtime.

Flogas will continue to provide you with your normal LNG supply, but will inject the equivalent volume of Bio-LNG (sourced directly from an AD plant) back into the grid. You then receive a green gas certificate to verify your usage.

If you're switching over from another fuel, then our energy experts will manage the whole process for you. We'll listen to your requirements and provide a bespoke solution to deliver unbeatable results for your business. We'll also manage everything for you – from civil works through to installation and commissioning of new equipment.

Bio-LNG – the benefits

Clean

Bio-LNG has a much lower carbon footprint than other fossil fuels or biofuels and can reduce CO2 emissions by more than 80% compared to diesel. It also emits negligible NOx and particulate matter (PM) [1]

Compliant

Bio-LNG helps businesses meet carbon and pollutant reduction targets set out in the UK's 'net zero' commitment, the Clean Growth Strategy, ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) standards, Marpol and the Medium Combustion Plant Directive.

A Simple Switch

Businesses that already use LNG can switch to Bio-LNG straightaway. No need to change your equipment and no downtime.

Which businesses can benefit from Bio-LNG?

Bio-LNG is most suitable for businesses with a continuous high energy demand (rather than on/off processes). This includes manufacturing, heating, power generation and other industrial operations. It’s also popular with transportation companies.

  • Transport

Bio-LNG’s strong environmental benefits compared to conventional fuels mean it’s set to become the fuel of choice for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).

Hauliers have long faced the challenge of how to reduce their carbon footprint efficiently and cost-effectively – and Bio-LNG presents a long-term, reliable solution.

  • Industry

We already supply tens of thousands of tonnes of conventional LNG each year for industrial use, and as we move towards a commitment to cut greenhouse emissions to ‘net zero’ by 2050, Bio-LNG is ideally placed to fuel industry.

We have one of the largest, most technically-advanced LNG fleets in the UK, allowing us to provide a truly reliable supply to large and small-scale industrial applications across the country.
