Customer Case Study: Kilworth House Hotel

Kilworth House hotel cooking with
gas for 20 years

Kilworth House is a four red-star, Victorian country house hotel and outdoor theatre venue in the heart of rural Leicestershire. Since it launched in 2003, the off-grid hotel has relied on LPG to provide reliable cooking gas for its commercial kitchen and to light its gas fires. It also uses LPG to provide all the heating, hot water and cooking gas for its popular log cabin function venue, ‘The Staging Post.’

Kilworth House is an impressive, Grade-II-listed hotel that’s set within thirty eight acres of landscaped, picturesque grounds. Combining attractive, period features with ultra-modern facilities, it draws in a wide range of business and leisure guests year-round. There are 44 bedrooms, two restaurants, private dining rooms, six meeting rooms, a log cabin function facility for 50 people, and a stunning outdoor theatre that seats 550 guests.

Powering a remote log cabin

With a strong environmental policy, the off-grid hotel aims to run as efficiently
as possible. Instead of using traditional carbon-heavy fuels like oil, it uses LPG
to provide reliable cooking gas for its kitchen and for its four gas fires in the
hotel lounges. In 2007, a separate LPG supply was also introduced to meet all
the energy needs of its log cabin function venue.

In 2007, Kilworth House unveiled the first log cabin of its kind in the UK, The Staging Post. It has its own selfcontained bar area, open fire and terrace and is a popular choice for evening weddings, parties, events and corporate
entertainment catering for up to 50 people.

Located out on the vast grounds of Kilworth House, this unique private venue needed its own energy supply. LPG was selected as a reliable and effective solution, and provides heating and hot water, as well as cooking gas for its small
finishing kitchen.

We love our rural location and it’s a big part of the charm of Kilworth House hotel. It does however mean we’re not connected to the mains gas grid. Thanks to LPG we can have a dependable off-grid gas supply for our open fires and real controllable cooking flames
for our twelve busy chefs.
Reliability is key when running a hotel business and our restaurants are a particular draw for guests. In fact, we often cater for up to 500 people in a day, so it’s vital we always have the gas we need to keep our kitchen running and our guests happy. Flogas LPG never lets us down. Our tanks come with auto-ordering technology, which works incredibly well for us. It means we don’t ever have to remember to order our gas, and Flogas automatically sorts refills when we’re running low. That’s the kind of peace of mind you want when you’re running a busy venue like this.

LPG – the perfect, sustainable solution

“Our expert team managed the design and installation of both LPG systems at Kilworth House, providing a full turnkey solution. We fitted two 4,600 ltr tanks discreetly underground for the main hotel. These are located just off the main driveway to make it easy for regular LPG deliveries. For The Staging Post venue, we installed an above ground tank, which sits neatly next to the venue. LPG has been and continues to be an excellent solution for Kilworth House. It meets their energy needs, it’s reliable, and most importantly it’s highly efficient.

“At Flogas we’re fully committed to helping our customers minimise their carbon impact and become more sustainable. LPG is one of the cleanest, most efficient offgrid fuels you can get, which is why it’s now playing such an important role in helping businesses on the road to net zero emissions. Our ambition is to be able to provide our customers with 100% renewable energy solutions by 2040. Bio-LPG is a chemically identical, renewable alternative to LPG, so our customers will be able to seamlessly transition over in the future with no changes to equipment. It’s a clear pathway to net zero.”
